A Parish Plan is a government initiative for rural communities to define what they want to see as the future of their towns and villages. Hundreds have been produced across the country, but this will be one of the first in South Derbyshire. It is important for two good reasons: firstly, it sets out plans and positions for all the issues important to the people who live in Melbourne to help local and district councils decide on priorities. Secondly, whilst a Parish Plan is no guarantee that money or action will follow, no council, lottery or major funder will give a penny without community support, and that means a Parish Plan.
